Asset Type
Asset Types are used to categorise assets based on their type or function within your organisation. They help structure your asset hierarchy and support reporting, filtering, and display throughout Samurai.
Asset types also define default behaviours for new assets, including their planning setup, meters, and serial number rules, ensuring consistency across your system.
Purpose of Asset Types
- Categorise assets for reporting and display
- Apply consistent planning and maintenance settings to new assets
- Control whether serial numbers must be unique
- Automatically assign a default meter to new assets of that type
Key Fields
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The name of the asset type (e.g. Mobile Equipment, Process Plant). |
| Examples | Optional description or examples of assets that fall under this type. |
| Mandatory Serial Number | When enabled, requires a serial number to be entered for all assets of this type. |
| Default Planning Type | Automatically sets the planning type (Basic, Standard, or Advanced) when creating a new asset. |
| Default Meter | Automatically adds the selected meter (e.g. hours, kilometres) when a new asset of this type is created. |
| No Duplicate Serial Numbers | Prevents multiple assets of this type from sharing the same serial number. |
