Shift Log Tasks

Shift log tasks provide a simple way to track small projects, follow ups and other items that do not require a work order or an event. They ensure that important jobs are not lost between shifts and can be viewed by every supervisor responsible for the department.

What Are Shift Log Tasks

Shift log tasks are items that need attention but fall outside the usual maintenance workflow. They are ideal for smaller projects, reminders and operational tidy ups such as cleaning a storeroom, chasing suppliers or preparing resources.
Tasks sit at the department level and appear automatically on every shift log created for that department.

Adding Tasks

Supervisors can add new tasks directly to the shift log. Each task requires a name and a description.
Once added, it stays visible on all future shift logs for that department until it is marked complete.

Sharing Tasks Between Shifts

Because tasks are linked to the department rather than a specific shift, the next shift supervisor will see the same list.
This prevents loss of information during handover and keeps minor projects moving forward without reopening or recreating notes each shift.

Completing Tasks

When a task is finished, it can be marked complete.
Completed tasks remain visible on shift logs for that department for the next forty eight hours so the incoming supervisors can see what has recently been closed out.
After this period the task will no longer appear on the shift log.

Department Task History

All completed tasks are kept in the department history. This allows supervisors and managers to review past tasks, confirm close out and track small department improvements over time.

When to Use a Task

Use a shift log task when:

  • The job does not need a work order
  • The item needs to be tracked across several shifts
  • Supervisors need a shared list of small ongoing activities
  • The task is department specific rather than asset specific

Shift log tasks help keep operations organised, reduce repeated explanations during handover and ensure smaller items are not forgotten.
