Rotables Management
Rotables are high value components that have their own unique serial number and are tracked individually throughout their lifecycle.
Unlike consumable parts, rotables are repeatedly installed, removed, repaired, rebuilt, and returned to service. The Rotables Management module allows you to register each rotable and maintain a complete history of its movements, condition, and usage over time.
What is a Rotable
A rotable is typically a large mechanical or electrical component that can be removed from an asset and sent away for repair or rebuild, then returned to service.
Common examples include:
- Engines
- Electric motors
- Pumps
- Transmissions
- Gearboxes
- Buckets and attachments
- Other major mechanical or electrical assemblies
Each rotable is tracked by its serial number, rather than just by part number.
Rotable Lifecycle Tracking
The Rotables Management module allows you to track a rotable through all stages of its lifecycle, including:
- Receiving from a supplier
- Holding in stores
- Fitting to an asset
- Removing from an asset
- Sending to a supplier for repair or rebuild
- Quarantine and inspection
- Returning to service
- Scrapping or selling
This applies both to a single repair cycle and across the full life of the rotable, including multiple rebuilds and returns to the supplier.
Why Use Rotables Management
Tracking rotables individually allows you to:
- Maintain a full service and movement history for each serialised component
- Track usage, condition, and rebuild counts
- Improve cost visibility across the life of the component
- Ensure the correct component is fitted to the correct asset
- Support warranty, rebuild, and supplier management processes
When to Use Rotables Instead of Parts
Use rotables when:
- The component has a serial number
- The component is removed and rebuilt rather than replaced
- You need visibility of the component’s full lifecycle
- The component represents a significant cost or operational risk
Consumable or low value parts that are not tracked individually should continue to be managed through standard inventory parts.
