Import Meter Readings
Meter readings can be imported in bulk to efficiently update asset usages without entering each reading manually.
How Meter Reading imports work
When you import Meter Readings, Samurai CMMS processes each record and applies the reading to the selected Asset meter. Imported readings update the current meter value and are recorded in the meter history.
This means:
- Meter values are updated based on the imported data
- Each reading is stored with its reading date
- Imported readings can trigger meter-based scheduling rules
Supported Meter Reading data
Each imported Meter Reading must include valid information to be processed correctly:
- Asset identifier
- Meter identifier
- Meter reading value
- Reading date
If required information is missing or invalid, the reading will not be imported.
Types of Meter Reading imports
Samurai CMMS supports different methods for importing Meter Readings, depending on how the data is collected and managed.
- File-based imports are used to load Meter Readings in bulk from an imported file
- This method is commonly used for spreadsheets or exported data files
- Each file is processed as a batch and validated before readings are applied
- Integration-based imports are used when Meter Readings are captured by third-party systems
- These systems may include telematics platforms, sensors, or external monitoring tools
- Readings received through integrations are imported automatically based on the configured connection
Integration-based imports may require customised configuration and business rules.
Scheduling behaviour
Imported Meter Readings are treated the same as manually entered readings.
This means:
- Meter-based Tasks may become due after import
- Cycles and recurring schedules use the updated meter values
- Multiple Tasks may trigger if meter thresholds are exceeded
Important considerations
- Importing historical readings may cause Tasks to become immediately due
- Existing Work Orders are not updated after readings are imported
