Events

Events are only available for Advanced Assets. Make sure you have Assets set to Advanced to use the Events module.

Events are used to record and manage equipment downtime in Samurai. They act as a container for one or more work orders and provide a clear record of what happened, when it happened and how long the equipment was unavailable. Events help maintenance teams understand issues, track progress and ensure accurate reporting of downtime across the site.

Events can be created and managed on both the Desktop and the mobile App.

What an Event Represents

An Event is created whenever something happens that affects the normal operation of an asset. This may include breakdowns, faults, inspections or scheduled services. Once an Event is created, any work orders raised to fix or investigate the issue are linked directly to that Event.

Using Events keeps all related work grouped together which helps supervisors and planners see the full picture of an incident or maintenance activity.

Key Features

  • Tracks downtime
Events record the start and end times for an issue which allows accurate calculation of downtime for reporting and analysis.
  • Holds work orders
All work required to resolve the issue is linked to the Event. This includes corrective repairs, inspections and follow up work.
  • Supports both planned and unplanned work
Events can be created for breakdowns or for routine service tasks, giving a single method of tracking all activity on an asset.
  • Displayed across Desktop and App
Operators, technicians and supervisors can log and update Events from wherever they are working.
  • Improves reporting
Events allow consistent downtime recording across assets, departments and shifts. This supports reliability reporting, KPI tracking and root cause investigation.

Managing Events on Desktop

On the Desktop, the Events page shows all current Events in three categories

  • Planned
  • In Progress
  • Complete

You can search, sort and filter Events, view the linked asset, see Event location, check start and estimated end times and open related work orders. Events can also be created, updated or closed directly from this screen.

Managing Events in the Mobile App

Field teams can create and update Events from the mobile App. This is useful when operators need to report breakdowns immediately or when technicians start work on site. Event details entered on the App sync with the Desktop so supervisors always have up to date information.

Why Events Matter

Events help teams understand equipment reliability, downtime patterns and the effort required to maintain assets. By keeping all information in one place, Events make it easier to

  • Review the cause of downtime
  • Plan future maintenance
  • Ensure consistent reporting
  • Improve communication across shifts

Events are an important part of managing equipment health and keeping maintenance operations running smoothly.
