Asset Status

Asset Status defines the current condition or availability of an asset. Statuses help teams understand whether an asset is operational, under maintenance, or unavailable for use, ensuring maintenance planning and scheduling reflect real-world conditions.

The table below describes each asset status and provides examples relevant to construction and earthmoving equipment.

Status Description Example
Operational The asset is active and available for use in normal operations. It can be scheduled for work and included in regular maintenance cycles. The asset is currently working on site and included in production schedules.
Maintenance The asset is undergoing scheduled or unscheduled maintenance. It is temporarily unavailable until work is completed and verified. The asset is in the workshop for engine servicing or hydraulic system repair.
Out of Service The asset is not operational due to a fault, damage, or awaiting assessment. It cannot be scheduled for work until returned to service. The asset is parked up due to transmission failure pending inspection.
Off Site The asset is temporarily away from its usual operating location. It may be at a subcontractor’s facility, in transit, or on loan. Asset sent off site for warranty repairs or external inspection.
Disposed The asset has been permanently removed from the fleet, either sold, scrapped, or written off. It remains in the system for record-keeping but cannot be scheduled or maintained. Asset sold after being replaced with a newer model.

Managing Asset Status

Keeping asset statuses up to date is essential for accurate scheduling and reporting. When an asset’s status changes—such as moving from Operational to Maintenance—Samurai automatically updates its availability in scheduling and planning tools.

Regularly reviewing and maintaining correct asset statuses helps ensure:

  • Only available equipment is scheduled for use
  • Maintenance workloads are prioritised correctly
  • Reports reflect true operational readiness across the fleet
