Manufacturers

Manufacturers define the original equipment manufacturer of an Asset. They form the highest level of the Asset hierarchy in Samurai CMMS and are used to classify Assets for reporting, filtering, and analysis.

Asset Hierarchy

The Asset hierarchy is: Manufacturer → Class → Model or Group → Asset

For example: Caterpillar → Haul Truck → 793F → DT001

Relationship to Classes and Models

Manufacturers sit at the top of the Asset hierarchy.

This structure means:

  • Each Class belongs to a single Manufacturer
  • Each Model belongs to a specific Manufacturer and Class
  • Assets inherit Manufacturer information through their Model

Use of Manufacturers in Samurai

A Manufacturer represents the company that produces or supplies the Asset. Each Asset is linked to one Manufacturer through its assigned Model.

This means:

  • Manufacturer data provides consistent classification across Assets
  • Assets can be grouped and analysed by manufacturer
  • Manufacturer information supports reporting without affecting maintenance behaviour
  • Analyse maintenance and performance trends by manufacturer
  • Supporting dashboards and high-level reporting

Changes to Manufacturer records affect reporting and filters but do not alter historical maintenance data.

Add a Manufacturer

  1. From the side menu select Reference Tables → Models & Groups → Manufacturer
  2. Select + Add Manufacturer
  3. Enter the Manufacturer and an optional website.

Manufacturers must exist before Classes and Models can be linked or created beneath them.

Hundreds of manufacturers of construction and mining equipment have been loaded into Samurai and are available in this list. Try to find the asset manufacturer before adding a new one.

Important considerations

  • Manufacturers must be defined before creating Classes and Models
  • Renaming a Manufacturer updates its display across the system
  • Deleting a Manufacturer may be restricted if it is in use
  • Manufacturers do not affect maintenance rules or system access

This structure provides a consistent foundation for Asset classification and reporting within Samurai CMMS.

Manufacturers as Source of Supply

The Manufacturers table is also used to specify the Source of Supply for parts and components.
